Ramp Metering
Ramp control signs are activated from the VicRoads Traffic Management Centre and may be directly linked to adjacent traffic signal control equipment controlling the traffic signals at the on-ramp where such exist, or connected to the SMR network.
Ramp Metering Signs form part of a Ramp Metering System and are activated from the Ramp Metering Controller. A typical Ramp Metering System consists of a Ramp Metering controller, 3 aspect traffic signal displays and Ramp metering signs. During operating times, the Ramp Metering System allows one car at a time, per lane, to enter the freeway.
